SENTIMENTAL OLE ME

I'm cleaning out drawers today....mostly because they won't shut.

When I got to the jewelry section, I found a double strand of big "plastic" pearls my Mom had given me for my 16th birthday. It was the era of Jackie Kennedy, and those type of pearls were popular. I'm sure I wore them then....and I haven't since.

This isn't the first time I've tried to toss them out. I always change my mind and keep them. I put them back this time too.

Why is it so hard to get rid of our stuff?

I have a long strand that wraps 3 times or can be left long flapper style.

I find them ever now and again tucked under a pile of scarves I'll never wear again but can't seem to part with....and thinking about it most were gifts from my mother.

There is a chance they'll come back in style. Maybe.

I agree that it's hard figuring out why we hang on to some things and throw others out with no second thought.

One of those true mysteries we should just learn to enjoy.

I think if they weren't a gift from my mother, I could part with them. It just surprises me that I can't let go of that attachment...even when she was alive.
You're right...maybe they WILL come back in style!
Thanks for stopping by!

Do you mean the "pop beads"??

I think we're afraid that we will throw out the memmory if we throw out the object that reminds us.
I don't know, but I do it too.

No, Lo...not the pop beads! Oh, gosh...weren't those fun? No, these were a "serious" double strand of fake pearls, choker style...ala Jackie.

I think you hit the nail right on the head! "If we throw out the object, we might lose the memory"....I don't think it could be said any better than that.

There is something about jewellery in particualr that makes me unable to even fathom throwing it out. I di tink perhaps it is because someone special usually gives us the said piece, even if me don't lie it or wear it all tha much. Having said taht. I have a friend who had a very generous ex-boyfriend, and she took all the godl jewellery he gave her and got it all melted down and turned into a single solid bangle that she wears often, unlike the other stuff. I thought she was very clever to do such a thing.
I would definitely be keeping those Jackie O pearls.Do pearls ever go out of style?
